Deepti Sharma caught the eye again with three wickets in hand in Women’s Asia Cup
Dambulla: India had a comfortable win against Pakistan and UAE. The Indian team secured their place in the last four of the Women’s Asia Cup (Women’s Asia Cup 2024) by winning three matches after defeating Nepal (India vs Nepal). In reply to India’s 178 runs, Nepal’s fight ended with 96 runs. Women in Blue won the match by a huge margin of 82 runs. Shafali Verma was selected as the man of the match for his impeccable innings of 81 runs. Deepti Sharma caught the attention again with three wickets in hand.
It was decided to rest Indian team captain Harmanpreet Kaur in this match. Smriti Mandhana took charge of the team instead of him. But he did not come down to open. The Indian team was planning to test the bench strength a bit. However, the absence of a regular captain or not opening Smriti did not affect the team’s performance in the last match where the middle-order batting of Richa Ghosh and Harmanpreet laid the foundation of the team’s victory. The Indian openers did that on this day. But this is good news for Team India before entering the field in the last four. But the entire Indian spin department, including Deepti Sharma, caught quite the eye once again.
Smriti won the toss and decided to bat first. Hemalta came to open with Shefali today. The two of them built a partnership of 122 runs in the opening and laid the foundation for the victory of the Indian team. India scored 50 runs without losing a wicket in the power play. Hemalta was dismissed for 47 runs on the threshold of his half-century and returned to Sajghar, but Shefali did not. He scored the tenth international T20 half-century of his career off 35 balls. His innings finally stopped at 81 runs. Jemimah played a crucial innings of 28 runs towards the end to help India reach 178 for three.
