4 advocates including Harish Salve will fight for Vinesh Phogat
According to reports, the Paris Bar has provided four advocates, including Harish Salve, to represent Phogat before the ad hoc division of CAS in Paris, the hearing of which is scheduled to begin today. However, a decision in the case may take some time.
What arguments can advocates put before CAS?
It is being told that Phogat has argued through her advocate that when she had won the quarter-final and semi-final matches, then why was she being denied the silver medal based on the final match of the second day? Secondly, Phogat can also claim that she can be disqualified on the second day of the competition due to being overweight and this should not have any effect on the results of the first day of the competition.
It is being said that Vinesh Phogat’s team has requested the court that her ranking on the first day of the competition should be maintained and she should be given a joint silver medal because she had won all three matches that day according to all the rules.

What are the rules of UWW, due to which Vinesh Phogat was out
The rules of the United World Wrestling (UWW), the international body that oversees wrestling events at the Olympics, clearly state that any athlete who gains weight on both days of the competition will automatically be disqualified and placed last in the entire competition. Phogat was disqualified from competing in the final bout for being 100 grams overweight, even though she weighed 50.1 kg while competing for the 50 kg category.
Why Vinesh Phogat missed out on getting even the silver medal
As per the rules of United World Wrestling, wrestlers are weighed on the first day of the competition. Weighing is done every day before the competition. Those who fail to maintain their weight in their category on any day are disqualified and lose their ranking in the entire competition. Phogat had gained weight on the first day of the competition and was found to be overweight before the final match on the second day, due to which she lost her ranking despite successfully defeating all her opponents on the first day and reaching the final. Due to this, she was not eligible for the silver medal despite winning the match to reach the final.
The 15-minute rule, based on which disqualification was made
Section 11 of Chapter 3 of the UWW International Wrestling Rules states that weights are measured in the respective weight categories every morning for all competitions. The weigh-in and medical procedure last for about 30 minutes. On the second morning, only wrestlers participating in the repechage and finals in the respective weight categories have to come for weigh-in. This weigh-in will last for 15 minutes. Phogat was also unable to reduce her weight below 50.1 kg during the 15 minutes given under the rules, due to which she was disqualified.
You can measure your weight as many times as you want in a given time
During the weighing, wrestlers have the right to step on the scale as many times as they wish in turn. Athletes will be dismissed from the competition and placed last without a rank if they fail the first or second weigh-in or do not participate. An athlete will keep his ranking if he sustains an injury on the first day and is not required to compete in the second weigh-in.
