Sabarmati Express Train Accident
On Saturday, August 17, The Sabarmati Express that arrived in the garb of a death train from Varanasi on Saturday night to Ahmedabad was running at its speed just like any other train on the rail track. The passengers of the train whose sleep had all managed to get a peaceful rest. This train was on its way to record crossing near Govindpuri station in Kanpur when a loud noise woke people. Voices say there was screaming inside the train. And the train stopped after moving some distance making a tingling noise.
So the scared people came out as soon as the train stood and they all were shocked to see. At least 20 coaches of the Sabarmati Express had been derailed near Govindpuri station. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav said, ‘The engine of Sabarmati Express (Varanasi to Amdavad) hit an object placed on the track and derailed near Kanpur at 02:35 am today. Sharp hit marks are observed. Evidence is protected. IB and UP police are also working on it. No injuries to passengers or staff. Train arranged for passengers for onward journey to Amdavad.’

As a result of the accident seven trains have been cancelled and the route of three has also changed, said the railway. Tripathi said the passengers were being sent to Kanpur Central Station by bus, from where they would be dispatched to their final destination. The CPRO said, ‘In addition to this, an eight-coach MEMU train from Kanpur was sent by switching off the power supply so that arrangements could be made for patting out stranded passengers here in Kanpur and shipping its destination. The railway has also announced helpline numbers to assist the passengers and their kin in the wake of the accident.
