Eighth Century in The Least Number of Innings

Gill batted brilliantly against Bangladesh. Gill was in good form in the three-match ODI series against England before the Champions Trophy and he maintained this rhythm here as well. Gill completed his eighth century in 51 innings and became the batsman to reach the eighth ODI century in the least number of innings for India. He surpassed Shikhar Dhawan in this matter, who had completed his eighth century in ODIs in 57 innings.

Not only this, Gill is the second batsman from India and the fifth overall to score a century against Bangladesh in the Champions Trophy. Before Gill, Joe Root, Rohit Sharma, Upul Tharanga and Chris Gayle have scored centuries against this team in the Champions Trophy. Gill may have scored a century, but this is the fourth slowest century by a batsman for India in ODIs since 2019. Gill scored a century in 125 balls and is fourth on this list.

    Superb Partnership of Hridoy-Zakir

Earlier, Bangladesh set a target of 229 runs for India to win with the help of Tauheed Hridoy’s century and Zakir Ali’s half-century. Batting first after winning the toss, Bangladesh’s situation was bad at one time and they lost five wickets for just 35 runs, but Zakir and Hridoy handled the Bangladesh innings with a superb partnership. The 154-run partnership for the sixth wicket between Zakir Ali and Tauheed Hridoy is the highest partnership for the sixth or lower order wicket in the Champions Trophy. Hridoy returned to the pavilion after scoring 100 runs in 118 balls with the help of six fours and two sixes.

In this matter, Shami left behind Australia’s star fast bowler Mitchell Starc who completed 200 ODI wickets in 5240 balls.
