The Origins of Friendship Day
In 1930, Friendship Day was first put forward by Joyce Hall of the State Card. Although at first the idea was received with skepticism that it could be a commercially viable project, the concept gained traction. World Friendship Day – The World Friendship Crusade, New York in 1958 proposed July 30. Then, in 2011 the UN General Assembly proclaimed that July 30 be designated as International Day of Friendship; and invited all Member States to “observe it properly.” Although it is an oxymoron in itself as almost every day we do sit with friends and exchange stories, but mostly many nations including we Indians celebrate Friendship Day on the first Sunday of August.
Friendship Day – Why do we celebrate it?
It gives us a chance to refresh the bond between two friends, or more than that for a few people, by gabbing, gossiping, and scratching each other back. Friends are family, and they play an important role in our lives. They give us emotional support and keep life alive with their presence be it fun or junk talk with them (lol except study group). This day we thank our friends, for their steadfastness and the ties that bind them. It is a period to rekindle all the friendships, establish new ones, and also commemorate this day as Friendship Day.
