Dhaka: 32 people were killed and 30 others injured on Sunday in Bangladesh’s capital Dhaka in clashes between supporters of the ruling Awami League and Bangladesh protesters demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

Clashes between the two sides
Bangladesh protesters arrived to participate in a ‘non-cooperation programme’ demanding the resignation of the government. They were opposed by Awami League, Chhatra League and Jubo League activists and then a clash broke out between the two sides.
The Dhaka Tribune newspaper stated that fighting between crowds and supporters of the Awami League in Munshiganj resulted in at least two fatalities and thirty injuries. However, the identities of the deceased were not disclosed in the report.
Demonstrators called on Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina to step down.
According to a report by news portal ‘BDNews24‘, the protesters demanded the resignation of Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina and raised slogans demanding justice for those killed in recent protests over reservation reforms. Protesters also gathered at the capital’s Science Lab Square on the first day of the non-cooperation movement and raised anti-government slogans.

The people who vandalise are not students but terrorists
Amid fresh violence in several parts of Bangladesh, Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina on Sunday said that those who indulge in vandalism in the name of protest are not students but terrorists and such elements need to be dealt with strictly. The Prime Minister said that I appeal to the countrymen to suppress these terrorists strictly.

The meeting was attended by the chiefs of the Army, Navy, Air Force, Police, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB), Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) and other top security officials. The Prime Minister’s Security Advisor and Home Minister were also present in the meeting.
Violence erupted after the death of more than 200 people
The fresh violence comes days after more than 200 people were killed in clashes between police and student protesters demanding the abolition of the controversial quota system that reserved 30 per cent of government jobs for relatives of Bangladesh’s 1971 liberation war fighters.
