Atishi Marlena will now be the new CM of Delhi. Arvind Kejriwal has selected his successor. Arvind Kejriwal proposed a name for the successor in Tuesday’s MLA groups’ meeting of the Aam Aadmi Party. Everyone agreed with unity on this proposal. In this manner, the race for CM has now been won by Atishi. Many names had been in the race for the post of CM such as Saurabh Bhardwaj, Gopal Rai, Kailash Gehlot, and Rakhi Birla who have now lagged.
Atishi Marlena to Become Delhi’s New Chief Minister, Claims Submitted for Government Formation
Aam Aadmi Party leader Gopal Rai announced that Atishi Marlena, nominated as Delhi’s next Chief Minister, has presented a formal claim to form the new government in a meeting with Lieutenant Governor Saxena. Atishi expressed her commitment to protecting the interests of the people of Delhi. Known as a key figure in the party and government, Atishi oversees important departments like Finance, Education, and PWD.
Atishi thanked Arvind Kejriwal, whom she called her mentor, for selecting her as his successor. She promised to work under his guidance to safeguard the people’s interests against BJP’s opposition. Atishi will be Delhi’s third female Chief Minister, following Sushma Swaraj and Sheila Dikshit.

In her first statement as the nominated Chief Minister, Atishi shared mixed emotions – joy at her nomination but deep sadness over Kejriwal’s resignation. Kejriwal had proposed her name during a party meeting, and it was unanimously accepted by the AAP MLAs. Atishi emphasized that her primary goal in the coming months would be to restore Kejriwal to his position as Chief Minister.
Atishi asked party MLAs not to give her congrats.
Atishi has also requested party MLAs not to congratulate her, calling this moment of Kejriwal’s resignation a sad one for her and the people of Delhi. Atishi acknowledged Kejriwal for trusting her with such a significant responsibility and for giving her opportunities to grow within the party. She noted that in any other party, someone from her background wouldn’t even get a ticket to contest an election.

Kejriwal insisted that elections be conducted in November in both Delhi and Maharashtra.
Kejriwal has called for early elections in Delhi, suggesting that they be held in November alongside Maharashtra’s polls. When he stepped down, Kejriwal has stated that he would only return to the Chief Minister’s office when the public gave him a “certificate of honesty.”
The BJP, meanwhile, has responded to Kejriwal’s resignation, stating that changing the face of the Chief Minister won’t change the character of the Aam Aadmi Party. They have held AAP accountable for 10 years of alleged corruption under its leadership.
