Traditionally, the Central Pay Commission is constituted every 10 years to review and recommend changes in the pay scales, allowances, and benefits of central government employees. This commission makes decisions by taking into account factors such as inflation and economic conditions. The 7th Pay Commission, constituted on February 28, 2014, by former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh, submitted its report on November 19, 2015, whose recommendations were implemented from January 1, 2016.
Based on this timeline, the 8th Pay Commission is expected to be effective from January 1, 2026. Like previous commissions, there is likely to be a revision of salaries under the recommendations of this pay commission. Adjustments will be made in dearness allowance (DA) and dearness relief (DR) for pensioners based on the recommendations of the commission.
